The Estate

Boris ChampyBorn in 1974, Boris Champy is originally from the Champagne region. An oenologist, he first worked for ten years in California's Napa Valley at the Dominus estate. He then served as the technical director of Domaine Louis Latour in Beaune and as the manager of Clos des Lambrays in Morey-Saint-Denis. He was also president of the ODG Corton and the initiator of an environmental protection association. On a more personal note, Boris is an accomplished triathlete and passionate about history.

The numerous encounters during these formative years allowed him to develop not only comprehensive expertise from vineyard to wine but also an entrepreneurial spirit, which, midway through his life, led him to create his own estate.

In 2019, without a successor, Didier Montchovet decided to entrust his estate—and above all, the philosophy that had driven him since 1984—to Boris Champy. It was a smooth transition that began informally during the 2019 harvest, in which Boris Champy took part.

Boris Champy is enthusiastic and believes in the future of the Hautes-Côtes, particularly due to their altitude in the context of climate change. Together with neighboring winemakers, he aims to continue enhancing the reputation of this superb yet underappreciated wine region. The goal of Domaine Boris Champy is straightforward: to highlight the lieux-dits, showcase the microclimates, the various exposures, and other fascinating subtleties.

At higher altitudes, in the hills and valleys of the Hautes-Côtes, Boris practices a style of viticulture somewhat distinct from that of the main wine-producing region. The plots are islands of biodiversity, featuring multiple enclosed vineyards (clos), as well as trees, hedgerows, stone walls, dry-stone terraces (meurgers), and fruit trees. Boris understands the importance of a holistic approach—viewing the vineyard as a complete ecosystem in agroecology, deeply respectful of the environment.

A magnificent Pommard, marked by finesse and freshness, far from the heaviness of some neighbors in the AOC. It offers a nose of fresh red fruits and fine tannins. It is highly recommended to decant it when young.

Provenance and storage of our wines

All wines and other products come directly from the estates or their exclusive distributors. In some cases, rare and hard-to-find bottles have been purchased from private collectors or professionals. Our expertise guarantees the quality and authenticity of the bottles.

These are stored in the cellar, on Fondaudège Street, in their entirety. The most fragile and rare bottles benefit from aging in a Liebherr or La Sommelière wine cellar.
