The Producer
Located on the heights of the Côtes de Francs, east of Bordeaux, Château Le Puy is a family estate with a history dating back to the 17th century. Passed down from generation to generation, the estate is now embodied by the Amoreau family, who have managed to preserve a unique and deeply independent vision of wine. Long remained confidential, Château Le Puy has gained international renown thanks to its authenticity and its striking appearance in the manga Les Gouttes de Dieu, where it is presented as a wine of emotion, almost initiatory.
The vineyard rests on a clay-limestone and silty-clay plateau, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a preserved environment. Here, no herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic products have been used for several decades. The estate practices organic and biodynamic farming in fact, long before these terms became "trendy" arguments. The living soils, carefully worked, allow the old vines to draw deeply their energy and to express with precision the minerality and finesse characteristic of the terroir of the Côtes de Francs.
Today, Château Le Puy embodies a committed and radical vision of wine: manual harvesting, natural fermentations, long aging without artifice, with minimal or even nonexistent use of sulfur. The wines, both digestible, vibrant, and of great depth, appeal to both discerning enthusiasts and Japanese culture lovers who discovered the estate through Les Gouttes de Dieu. More than just a simple Bordeaux château, Le Puy has become a symbol of purity, respect for life, and true emotion in the glass.
The Cuvée
Barthélemy comes from a unique geological parcel called "the Rocs," planted with 100% merlot. This wine is produced after a natural vinification known as infusion.
The aging takes place for at least two years in experienced barrels, through dynamization, depending on the phases of the moon without the addition of sulfur dioxide or others. It is bottled without filtration.
Tasting
With its deep purple color, its subtle nose develops like a variation of aromas from a basket of very ripe grapes. Of great richness, the palate expresses all the complexity of a deep and silky structure at the same time. Its finish is enticing and makes you want to continue, to delve deeper into its recognition.
Barthélemy is the ideal complement for all grilled meats, game, mushrooms, and all fine and delicate dishes. It does not overshadow the finesse of the flavors of the dishes.
