Savennières

The Saumur AOC, established in 1936, covers around 1,200 hectares in the heart of the Loire Valley, near the town of Saumur. It produces white wines (mainly from chenin blanc), reds (from cabernet franc), and fine sparkling wines made using the traditional method. The tuffeau limestone soils lend freshness, finesse, and structure. Saumur is also known for its troglodyte cellars. Pairings: creamy fish dishes, roasted poultry, charcuterie, vegetarian cuisine. Notable producers: Clos Rougeard, Domaine Guiberteau, Château Yvonne.
