Castillon Côtes-de-Bordeaux
The Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOC, established in 1984, covers about 1,300 hectares east of Bordeaux on the right bank of the Dordogne River. It is known for its powerful and fruity red wines, mainly from merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon grapes. The appellation benefits from clay-limestone soils that enhance the richness and structure of the wines. Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is often seen as a great alternative to more prestigious right bank appellations. The wines pair well with red meats, stews, and aged cheeses.
