Médoc

The Médoc AOC, established in 1936, covers about 6,000 hectares on the left bank of the Gironde River. It produces red wines mainly from cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and petit verdot grapes. The gravelly soils provide good drainage, promoting powerful, tannic, and elegant wines with good aging potential. Médoc is a highly recognized appellation for its prestigious classified growths. These wines pair well with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
