The Producer
The Domaine Guiberteau, located in Saint-Just-sur-Dive, south of Saumur, is a family-owned estate with a winemaking history dating back to 1934, the year the Guiberteau family settled in the region. In 1996, Romain Guiberteau took over the management of the estate and began to evolve the domain, with the ambition of revealing the potential of the great Saumur terroirs. Advised in its early days by the Foucault brothers of Clos Rougeard, he developed a demanding approach, focused on soil work and the precision of vinifications. Over the years, he has contributed to the recognition of the estate for its Saumur wines, both white and red, prioritizing the expression of the plots rather than the pursuit of a uniform style.
The vineyard today covers approximately 14.5 hectares of vines, spread across several municipalities of the Saumur appellation, notably Brézé, Bizay, Montreuil-Bellay, and Saint-Just-sur-Dive. It relies on two major grape varieties of the Loire: Chenin Blanc for the whites and Cabernet Franc for the reds. The diversity of soils, between deep clays and tuffeau limestone, allows for the creation of wines with distinct profiles. Committed to organic farming since 2003, the estate prioritizes manual harvesting and a low-intervention approach in the cellar. Fermentations occur thanks to indigenous yeasts, while the aging processes are tailored to each cuvée, in stainless steel tanks, concrete, or oak barrels, in order to preserve the balance between fruit, structure, and mineral expression.
