Pauillac
The Pauillac AOC, established in 1936, covers about 1,200 hectares in the Médoc region on the left bank of the Gironde River. It is famous for its powerful, elegant, and tannic red wines, mainly made from cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. The gravelly soils contribute to the finesse and longevity of some of Bordeaux’s most prestigious classified growths. Pauillac is home to great estates such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, and Château Mouton Rothschild. These wines pair particularly well with grilled meats, rich stews, and hard cheeses.
