Saint-Estèphe

The Saint-Estèphe AOC, established in 1936, covers around 1,200 hectares in the northern part of the Médoc. The clay-gravel soils give the wines a firm tannic structure and excellent aging potential. Predominantly made from cabernet sauvignon and merlot, Saint-Estèphe reds are powerful, deep, and distinctive. Notable estates include Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose. These wines pair beautifully with roasted lamb, spicy dishes, or washed-rind cheeses.
