The Producer
Château Mangot is a family-owned estate located in Saint-Émilion, at the gates of Castillon, currently managed by brothers Karl and Yann Todeschini. In this winemaking family active since the 1950s, each generation has enriched the estate's know-how and directed it towards more sustainable viticulture. In 2022, the estate reached a major milestone by being promoted to Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, rewarding decades of rigorous work in the vineyards and cellar.
The vineyard extends over approximately 37 hectares in one block in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, on clay-limestone soils rich in starry limestone and molasses. This geological diversity — including foot of the coast, hillsides, terraces, and plateaus — gives the wines great minerality, tension, and depth, while maintaining a silky expression thanks to the clay contribution. The favorable exposure and varied altitude optimize the ripeness of the grapes, primarily Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Château Mangot is today a model of integrated ecological viticulture. The estate has been certified Organic Agriculture since 2020 and is committed to a conversion to biodynamics with Biodyvin certification completed in 2023, which means that biodynamic practices are now an integral part of vineyard management. This approach aims to enhance soil vitality, biodiversity, and vine health through the use of biodynamic preparations and natural methods, with minimal interventions in the cellar.
The Wine
Direct pressing is followed by low-temperature fermentation on lees, in stainless steel tanks.
A fermentation as natural as possible, under oxygen protection, helps to limit the use of sulfites.
