The Estate
Located on the hills of Chavanay, in the heart of the prestigious Northern Rhône Valley wine region, Domaine du Monteillet has been owned by the Montez family since the 17th century. Eight generations of winemakers have shaped its legacy. Since the late 1990s, Stéphane Montez has taken over the estate, having honed his skills through winemaking experiences in Australia, California, and South Africa.
The estate covers around 40 hectares across several appellations: Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie, and Vin de Pays. The steep, terraced hillsides and granitic soils contribute to wines with striking mineral tension. The vines benefit from optimal sun exposure and are cultivated with meticulous manual care, enabling precise and demanding viticulture.
Today, Stéphane Montez continues the family tradition while bringing a fresh, modern vision. He practices sustainable viticulture, limits yields, and crafts cuvées that fully reflect the richness of the Rhône terroir. His whites, especially in Condrieu, are refined and elegant, while the reds are powerful yet balanced, aged with great care.
