The Producer
Château Puygueraud is an iconic property of the Côtes de Francs appellation, located on the right bank of the Bordeaux vineyard. The estate belongs to the Thienpont family, a key figure in Bordeaux wine, also associated with prestigious properties like Vieux Château Certan. Taken over in the 1980s by Nicolas Thienpont, Puygueraud quickly gained recognition thanks to a demanding approach and a desire to reveal the full potential of this still discreet appellation at the time.
The vineyard extends over clay-limestone hills particularly suited to the expression of Merlot, the estate's predominant grape variety, complemented by Cabernet Franc. These soils provide both freshness, structure, and complexity to the wines. The altitude and exposure allow for a gradual ripening of the grapes, favoring elegant balances. Vineyard work is carried out rigorously, in a logic of respect for the terroir and control of yields.
Today, Château Puygueraud produces wines recognized for their precision, their deliciousness, and their excellent value for money. The cuvées charm with their pure fruitiness, silky texture, and accessibility from a young age, while still maintaining good aging potential. The estate perfectly embodies the rise in quality of the Côtes de Francs and establishes itself as a reference for enthusiasts seeking authentic and accessible Bordeaux.
