The Producer
Domaine Les 4 Vents is primarily a family adventure deeply rooted in time. Originating from two families established in the area since the 1800s, the estate is now carried on by the seventh generation, who passionately uphold the connection to the land and family work. For a long time focused on mixed farming, with only a few hectares of vines until the 1990s, the estate has gradually developed its vineyard, particularly under the influence of previous generations. A major turning point occurred with the 2010 vintage, when the family decided to vinify their own grapes, marking a new chapter in its history.
Located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, the estate now spans about a dozen hectares across several terroirs in the southern part of the appellation. Syrah largely dominates the red grape plantings, while Marsanne and Roussanne make up the whites. The soils and local conditions allow for a true expression of these emblematic grape varieties of the northern Rhône. Managed organically since 2007, the vineyard is cultivated with respect for natural cycles, with constant attention to soil balance and vine vitality.
Today, Domaine Les 4 Vents embodies a committed and artisanal vision of wine. In both the vineyard and the cellar, the goal is to guide the grapes towards their most authentic expression, with minimal interventions and environmentally friendly practices. The winemaking favors indigenous yeasts and limits inputs to preserve the purity of the fruit and the terroir. This approach gives rise to sincere, balanced, and identity-driven wines, reflecting both their origin and the philosophy of the winemakers who shape them.
The Wine
THE VINES AND THE SOIL
Parcel selection, 60-year-old vines.
Located in the southern part of the appellation along the Rhône, these vines experience significant stress in the summer, as the soil is very sandy and shallow, bringing concentration and power.
THE WINEMAKING
Hand-harvested. 100% whole cluster fermentation, with a maceration period of 4 weeks and some interventions (minimal punching down and regular pump-overs) to allow the authenticity of this beautiful terroir to express itself. Aged for 12 months in demi-muids (600l) and amphora.
Tasting
Intense color with violet reflections, beautiful concentration.
On the nose, a bouquet of blueberry, blackberries, and toasted notes.
On the palate, structure and power with finesse. Intense aromas of forest fruits and licorice. Long finish on overripe fruits and toasted notes.
