Terrasses du Larzac

Terrasses du Larzac

The Terrasses du Larzac AOC, located in the Languedoc region northwest of Montpellier, became an independent appellation in 2014. Dedicated exclusively to red wines, it lies in the foothills of the Larzac plateau, where altitude and cool nights moderate the Mediterranean heat. Its varied soils include limestone, sandstone, stony terraces and other sedimentary formations. The wines are made primarily from grenache, syrah, mourvèdre and carignan, often blended to create complex, balanced wines. They display aromas of red and black fruits, spices, liquorice, black olives and garrigue, with freshness and firm tannic structure. These age-worthy wines pair beautifully with roast lamb, slow-cooked meats, game and Mediterranean dishes featuring aromatic herbs.

Notable producers include Mas Jullien, Domaine de Montcalmès, Mas Cal Demoura, Les Vignes Oubliées and Le Clos de la Barthassade.
