The Producer
Located in the heart of Yonne, Domaine Christophe Ferrari is one of the historical signatures of the appellation. The story begins in 1987, when Christophe Ferrari, after a revelation during the harvest a few years earlier, founded his estate by patiently bringing together several small farms from the village. Without a family winemaking heritage, he built his estate through conviction and hard work, with a very precise understanding of the climates of Irancy. Early on, he identified the potential of specific sites like La Bergère and Le Paradis, which he vinified separately starting in the 1990s, already affirming a vision of a terroir winemaker.
The vineyard rests on the Kimmeridgian clay-limestone slopes of Irancy, in this unique natural amphitheater that gives the wines their depth and freshness. Here, Pinot Noir dominates, sometimes complemented by a touch of César, the emblematic grape of the appellation, which the estate uses judiciously to bring relief and character to certain cuvées. The viticulture, attentive and demanding, favors manual harvesting, measured aging, and a constant search for balance between fruit, structure, and finesse. The estate's wines stand out for their clear expression of the terroir: dense yet elegant Irancy wines, with notes of black cherry, spices, and licorice, showing true aging potential.
Today, the estate remains a reference in Irancy, recognized for the consistency of its cuvées and its sincere, precise, and deeply Burgundian style. Alongside the village cuvées, climates such as Le Paradis, La Bergère, or Plein Sud illustrate the diversity of the vineyard and the care given to each parcel. True to the artisanal spirit of its beginnings, Christophe Ferrari has built a respected house for its authenticity and its attachment to the unique character of the reds from Auxerrois.
