The Producer
Created in 1989 by Francis and Catherine Boutemy, Château Haut-Lagrange is a family-owned estate located in Léognan, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Since its inception, the estate has remained entirely in the hands of the Boutemy family, who continue a winemaking tradition passed down through several generations. Today, it is notably their son Ghislain Boutemy who oversees the vineyard and winemaking, surrounded by a small dedicated team. Together, they have developed a human-scale estate, driven by the desire to produce authentic wines and share their passion for the vine and wine.
The vineyard covers approximately 8.5 hectares within the Graves terroir, known for its deep, well-draining gravel soils. This type of soil promotes the ripeness of the grapes and contributes to the characteristic elegance of the wines from the appellation. The grape varieties reflect the Bordeaux tradition: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the whites. This combination allows for the production of balanced wines, where structure and freshness harmonize with the expression of the fruit.
Château Haut-Lagrange is currently continuing its development with an approach attentive to the environment and quality. The estate is certified Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value (HVE level 3), demonstrating sustainable viticulture that respects natural balances. The wines of the château, produced in both red and white, stand out for their finesse, fruitiness, and balance, faithfully reflecting the elegant and accessible style of contemporary Pessac-Léognan.
The Wine
The harvest is manual with sorting of the grapes in the vineyard and at the winery. From September 10 to September 24, 2021. Fermentation is controlled at 29°C, with maceration lasting 21 days. Aging for 16 months in new barrels (oak) for 40% of the harvest, the rest in tanks. Bottling takes place 21 months after the harvest.
Tasting
Very appealing nose of ripe red fruits, spicy and raspberry notes. On the palate, very fruity, with very elegant tannins, beautiful freshness and liveliness.
