The Producer
Founded in the early 20th century in Puligny-Montrachet, the Etienne Sauzet estate is one of the major names in the Côte de Beaune. The story truly begins after World War I when Etienne Sauzet, a cooper by trade, inherits a few plots of vines through his marriage to the daughter of a winemaker from Puligny. Through rigorous management and gradual acquisitions of prestigious plots, he gradually builds a remarkable estate. The estate's reputation quickly establishes itself for the purity and precision of its white wines, becoming one of the references of the appellation.
The estate's vineyard mainly extends around Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, on some of the most prestigious terroirs of Burgundy. The limestone soils, mixed with fine clays and stones, favor the expression of a Chardonnay with great mineral tension. The estate has plots in several renowned premier crus as well as in the emblematic grand crus of the appellation, where the vines, often old, produce grapes of great concentration while maintaining finesse and balance.
Today, the estate is run by the Boudot family, descendants of Étienne Sauzet, who continue a very demanding work in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. The cultivation is carried out according to organic and biodynamic principles to preserve the vitality of the soils and the purity of the fruit. The winemaking emphasizes precision and elegance, with measured aging in barrels. The wines of Étienne Sauzet are now among the most sought after in Puligny-Montrachet, admired for their balance between richness, energy, and crystalline expression of the terroir.
