The Producer
Domaine du Monteillet is an iconic family estate in the northern Rhône Valley, located in Chavanay. Taken over by Stéphane Montez in the late 1990s, the estate continues a tradition of know-how passed down through several generations while infusing a modern and demanding vision of viticulture. Under his leadership, the estate has experienced remarkable growth, becoming a reference for prestigious appellations such as Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.
The vineyards of Domaine du Monteillet thrive on steep slopes typical of the northern Rhône, with predominantly granite and schist soils. These steep terraces benefit from ideal exposure and natural drainage, essential conditions to reveal the aromatic finesse of the grape varieties. The Viognier expresses all its complexity here, while the Syrah gains depth, freshness, and precision.
Today, Stéphane Montez leads the estate with a constant search for balance between respect for the terroir and technical precision. The yields are controlled, the vinifications are careful and minimally interventionist, allowing the identity of each plot to speak for itself. The wines from Domaine du Monteillet stand out for their purity, elegance, and great aging potential, accurately reflecting the unique character of the great wines of northern Rhône.
