Madiran

The Madiran AOC, established in 1948, covers about 1,200 hectares in southwestern France. It is known for its powerful red wines, mainly made from tannat grapes, often blended with cabernet franc or cabernet sauvignon. The soils are clay-limestone, producing structured, tannic wines with good aging potential. Pairings: grilled red meats, cassoulet, stews, strong cheeses. Notable producers: Domaine Berthoumieu, Château Montus.
