The Estate
Domaine Ganevat is an emblem of the Jura vineyard, located in Rotalier, south of Lons-le-Saunier. The Ganevat family has been cultivating vines since the 17th century, but it was Jean-François Ganevat, who returned in 1998 after training in Burgundy with Jean-Marc Morey, who brought the estate to its current level of renown. With deep respect for tradition and native grape varieties, he began converting to biodynamic farming in the early 2000s, breaking away from oenological additives in favor of natural methods.
The estate spans approximately 13 hectares, divided into around forty micro-parcels nestled on blue and grey marl and schist soils in the southern Revermont. This patchwork of terroirs, combined with demanding manual viticulture, allows for a precise expression of Jura varieties such as Savagnin, Trousseau, Poulsard, Chardonnay, and the rare Enfariné. Each cuvée offers a faithful and singular interpretation of its place of origin.
Today, Jean-François Ganevat, supported by his sister Anne, continues to craft vibrant, refined, and deeply complex wines that captivate enthusiasts and sommeliers worldwide. The domaine also produces wines under the “Anne & Jean-François Ganevat” label, a haute-couture négociant range made from grapes sourced from like-minded growers, always vinified with the same artisanal precision. Their uncompromising approach — native yeasts, minimal or no sulfur, long élevage — has earned them a place among the most respected producers in Jura and beyond.
The Wine
The Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes cuvée comes from very old Chardonnay vines planted in 1919, on deep white marl soils rich in clay, located in Rotalier. This cold and compact soil produces wines that are both powerful and taut. The vineyard management is certified biodynamic, without herbicides or synthetic products. All work is done by hand, with extremely low yields, to promote concentration and the expression of the terroir. The domaine also uses plant-based preparations (nettle, horsetail, chamomile) to strengthen vine vitality.
Tasting
A complex and intense nose, blending ripe yellow fruits, honey notes, and dried flowers. The palate is broad and structured, with a beautiful mineral tension supporting a rich and silky texture. The finish is long and saline, marked by deep elegance and refreshing vibrancy.
