Max de Pourtalès returned to his Bordeaux roots in 1998 with the acquisition of Château Doyac, located in the Haut-Médoc appellation. His wife, Astrid, left the New York theater scene to join him in this new adventure. Together, they fell in love with this magnificent vineyard, whose origins date back centuries, as documented in Bordeaux et ses vins by Éditions Féret in 1850.
Extensive renovation work has been carried out both in the vineyards and the cellars. Following the expansion of the estate in 2009, Max de Pourtalès built a new conditioning cellar and a new barrel cellar to optimize the winemaking process. Additionally, a tasting room equipped with a professional pizza oven allows for hosting both journalists and wine-loving tourists. Everything has been designed to allow this vineyard to express itself under the best possible conditions.
"My philosophy," explains Max de Pourtalès, "is not to make overly extracted wines, as is done all over the world, but rather to craft fine and elegant wines. That doesn’t mean lacking substance, but it is essential to maintain balance and freshness—everything that defines the great wines of Bordeaux." Supported by their team and guided by their oenologists, Eric Boissenot and Marco Balsimelli, Max and Astrid de Pourtalès strive each year to create blends that best respect the vintage and reveal the true personality of Château Doyac's wine.
The 2020 vintage is part of Bordeaux’s trilogy—2018, 2019, and 2020—three vintages that benefited from relatively mild weather, producing powerful wines that can be enjoyed young for their vibrant red and black fruit or aged in the cellar.
Château Doyac 2020 beautifully showcases the brilliance of black fruits and the finesse of its tannins. On the palate, it is smooth, delicate, and flavorful, with enticing aromas of fresh blackcurrant, black raspberry, and cedar. Aged for 12 months in amphorae and barrels, this wine should be opened an hour in advance!

Provenance and storage of our wines
All wines and other products come directly from the estates or their exclusive distributors. In some cases, rare and hard-to-find bottles have been purchased from private collectors or professionals. Our expertise guarantees the quality and authenticity of the bottles.
These are stored in the cellar, on Fondaudège Street, in their entirety. The most fragile and rare bottles benefit from aging in a Liebherr or La Sommelière wine cellar.
