The Producer
Located on the heights of the Côtes de Francs, east of Bordeaux, Château Le Puy is a family-owned estate with a history dating back to the 17th century. Passed down from generation to generation, the estate is now embodied by the Amoreau family, who have managed to preserve a unique and deeply independent vision of wine. Long remained confidential, Château Le Puy has gained international renown thanks to its authenticity and its striking appearance in the manga Les Gouttes de Dieu, where it is presented as a wine of emotion, almost initiatory.
The vineyard rests on a clay-limestone and silty-clay plateau, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a preserved environment. Here, no herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic products have been used for several decades. The estate practices organic and biodynamic farming in fact, long before these terms became "trendy" arguments. The living soils, carefully worked, allow the old vines to draw deeply on their energy and to express with precision the minerality and finesse specific to the terroir of the Côtes de Francs.
Today, Château Le Puy embodies a committed and radical vision of wine: manual harvesting, natural fermentations, long aging without artifice, with minimal, if any, use of sulfur. The wines, both digestible, vibrant, and of great depth, appeal to both discerning enthusiasts and Japanese culture lovers who discovered the estate through Les Gouttes de Dieu. More than just a simple Bordeaux château, Le Puy has become a symbol of purity, respect for life, and true emotion in the glass.
The Wine
This wine, unfiltered, comes from vines planted with 85% merlot, 7% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc, 1% malbec, and 1% carménère. Emilien is obtained by decantation in large casks and experienced barrels for 24 months.
Tasting
Its nose reveals aromas of very ripe red fruits dominated by blackcurrant, currants, burnt almonds, and sometimes mushrooms and undergrowth. The palate is round, full, and delicate with velvety tannins and a long and pleasantly complex finish.
Émilien is of great finesse and can be enjoyed both young, thanks to the velvety nature of its tannins, and older to perceive the full depth of its terroir. This wine has great longevity.
Emilien is the natural accompaniment to family recipes as well as the most delicate dishes.
