The Producer
Château Beychevelle, located in the Saint-Julien region of the Médoc, is one of the classified growths of Bordeaux. Its history dates back to the 17th century when it was owned by the Beychevelle family, a noble lineage of Gascon origin. The name "Beychevelle" is thought to come from the term "baisse voile," a reference to a maritime tradition where ships approaching the port would salute the family by lowering their sails.
In the 18th century, the estate became a place of prestige, and its wines attracted a distinguished clientele, including members of royalty. In 1821, it was classified among the top four growths of Saint-Julien. Today, Château Beychevelle is recognized for its elegant and refined wines, primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon, which combine tradition and modernity in their production.
The Wine
Viticulture at Château Beychevelle is based on rigorous soil management, with pruning and leaf removal practices to optimize sun exposure. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, with particular attention to water management and natural disease protection. During winemaking, the grapes are sorted by hand and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aging is done in oak barrels, with a mix of new wood and old casks to refine the aromas.
Tasting
The wine from Château Beychevelle is distinguished by great finesse and an elegant structure. On the palate, it offers beautiful complexity, with aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, and licorice, accompanied by subtle woody notes. The tannins are soft, well-integrated, and the acidity, perfectly balanced, brings a lovely freshness. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by spicy touches and great aging potential.
