The Producer
Le Clos la Néore is one of the most confidential and mythical properties of the Sancerre appellation. Located in Chavignol, this estate has been closely linked to the Vatan family for several generations. Edmond Vatan shaped the reputation of the estate through a demanding vision of the terroir and a constant search for purity of expression. Since his retirement, his daughter Anne Vatan has continued this legacy with the same philosophy, producing one of the most sought-after Sauvignon Blancs in the world.
The estate now rests on a single plot of about one hectare: the famous Clos la Néore, located on the prestigious slope of the Monts Damnés. Facing full south, this terroir of Kimmeridgian marls and limestones gives the wine exceptional depth, tension, and minerality. The old vines, resulting from a mass selection made by Edmond Vatan in the 1970s, produce very low yields, giving rise to a cuvée of rare precision and immense aging potential.
At the estate, interventions remain deliberately limited in order to allow the terroir to express itself fully. Fermentations take place with indigenous yeasts, aging is conducted with patience, and bottling prioritizes the purity of the wine. Produced in tiny quantities, now mainly in magnum according to the latest vintages, Clos la Néore has become an absolute reference for Sauvignon Blanc, admired for its balance between power, finesse, and mineral expression.
