The Producer
Château Guilhem Tournier is a family-owned vineyard located in La Cadière-d’Azur, in the heart of the Bandol AOC region in Var (Provence). The estate is part of a long family tradition of winemakers: after his parents Henri and Geneviève Tournier founded Domaine de la Roche Redonne in 1989 on their ancestral lands, their son Guilhem Tournier created his own estate in 2004 with a focus on sustainable, agroecological, organic viticulture inspired by biodynamic principles. For 15 generations, the family has upheld passion, respect, and hard work in the vineyard in this Mediterranean terroir marked by the influence of the sea and the Provençal sun, ideal conditions for the expression of Mourvèdre, the emblematic grape variety of Bandol.
Situated on hillsides facing west towards the Mediterranean Sea, the vineyard of Château Guilhem Tournier rests on clay-limestone soils and benefits from a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate typical of the Bandol appellation. Viticulture is conducted with care: manual harvesting, plowing with animal traction, working the soils and vines without chemical treatments or amendments, favoring compost, manure, and other natural practices. These conditions allow for a fine expression of the grape varieties — particularly Mourvèdre, the king of the appellation, associated with varieties like Cinsault — and give the wines a structure and personality that are typically Bandol.
Today, the estate produces a range of organic and biodynamic AOC Bandol wines in white, rosé, and red. Notable cuvées include La Malissonne (rosé aged in tank, primarily made from Mourvèdre and Cinsault), as well as characterful reds made with a high proportion of Mourvèdre and sometimes a hint of Syrah, offering aromas of black fruits, spices, and significant aging potential. The wines are vinified directly at the estate and reflect Guilhem Tournier's artisanal commitment to environmentally friendly viticulture and the Provençal terroir. The estate also offers tastings, visits, and sales by appointment, as well as wine tourism and gourmet events throughout the year.
