Château Talbot
Château Talbot
Founded in the 18th century and named in honor of the English constable John Talbot, a figure of the Hundred Years' War who fell at Castillon in 1453, Château Talbot is one of the emblematic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation. Classified as a Fourth Growth in the famous 1855 classification, it has established itself over generations as a benchmark of consistency and elegance. Owned by the Cordier family since the early 20th century, the estate has managed to preserve its identity while modernizing its facilities, thus consolidating its reputation at fine dining tables around the world.
The vineyard extends over one of the most beautiful terroirs of Saint-Julien, in the heart of the Médoc, on deep Garonne gravel resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. This composition ensures optimal natural drainage and promotes deep rooting of the vines, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot. This Cabernet dominance gives the wines their classic structure, freshness, and remarkable aging potential, a signature of the great wines of the left bank.
Today, Château Talbot embodies a harmonious style, combining controlled power and aromatic finesse. Its wines are distinguished by notes of blackcurrant, cedar, and spices, supported by silky tannins and an elegant framework. The estate also produces a second wine, Connétable de Talbot, as well as a confidential white, Talbot Caillou Blanc, reflecting the constant desire to express the identity of this great Médoc terroir with precision and modernity.
