Côte-Rôtie

The Côte-Rôtie AOC, established in 1940, covers about 170 hectares in the northern Rhône Valley. It produces red wines mainly from syrah grapes, sometimes blended with a little viognier to add finesse and aromatic complexity. The vineyards are on steep granite slopes, producing elegant, powerful, and aromatic wines with great aging potential. Pairings: game, grilled red meats, stews, aged cheeses. Notable producers: E. Guigal, Domaine Jamet, Domaine René Rostaing.
