Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, established in 1936, covers about 3,200 hectares in the southern Rhône Valley. It is one of France’s most prestigious and historic appellations, known for its powerful and complex red wines made from blends of up to 13 authorized grape varieties, including grenache, mourvèdre, and syrah. The varied soils—large rounded stones (galets roulés), clay, and sand—contribute to the wines’ structure and richness, often with excellent aging potential. Pairings: grilled meats, game, stews, aged cheeses. Notable producers: Château de Beaucastel, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, Château Rayas.
